World Alzheimer’s Day is observed every year on 21st September with the aim of raising awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. It was first launched in 1994 by Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI), on the 10th anniversary of the organization.2012 expanded into world Alzheimer’s month, the purpose of theme is global reminder,  early diagnosis and medical consultation , care givers support, Reduces stigma, and foster acceptance.

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive brain disorder that gradually destroys memory, thinking ability, and daily functioning. With millions of people affected worldwide, the day serves as a global platform to spread knowledge, reduce stigma, Encourage early Diagnosis, and promote better support for patients and caregivers.

Each year, a specific theme is chosen to guide awareness activities, discussions, and educational programs, helping communities understand dementia and build compassion for those living with it.

World Alzheimer’s Day was celebrated at Florence College of Nursing on 22nd September under the guidance and presence of esteemed dignitaries:

Every year, 21st September is observed globally as World Alzheimer’s Day to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. This year’s theme was “Know Dementia, Know Alzheimer’s – Ask About Dementia and Ask About Alzheimer’s.”

The celebration at Florence College was organized by B.Sc. Nursing 3rd Year and GNM 2nd Year students. The event commenced at 3:00 PM in the college campus with a skit performed by students, highlighting the importance of awareness, early recognition, and compassionate care for dementia patients.  GNM 2ND Explain about the dementia  awareness prevention and treatment. Additionally, posters created by students were displayed, carrying educational messages and facts about dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

 All b.sc Nursing, GNM and ANM students were present as audience and office staff also present in the Alzheimer’s awareness program

The program was coordinated and supported by the Department of Mental Health Nursing, with active involvement of the faculty members:

The event was a meaningful effort to spread knowledge, reduce stigma, and encourage greater understanding of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease among students and the community.
